Jonesboro Water System Municipal Water Report Info

Jonesborough operates high-quality water and wastewater systems serving not only the Town of Jonesborough but also areas beyond the town's city limits. The Jonesborough Regional Water System covers a substantial portion of Washington County, stretching from Unicoi County to the Fall Branch area and from the Greene County boundary to just east of Jonesborough's city limits.

The boundary between Jonesborough's water system and the neighboring Johnson City Water System runs along Sycamore Drive and Buncombe Hill Road just east and southeast of Jonesborough, and continues along Headtown Rd, John France Rd, and Hales Chapel Rd to the north.

Jonesborough draws its raw water from the Nolichucky River, with the Water Plant located in the Lamar Community area. The Water System consists of five departments:

  • Water Administration operates from the Town Recorder's Office at Town Hall on Boone Street. All water billing and payments are processed here Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm.
  • Meter Reading staff maintain and read water meters throughout the entire system, handling re-checks and troubleshooting meter issues.
  • Water Distribution handles water line extensions, maintenance and repairs system-wide, including fire hydrants and valves.
  • Water Treatment oversees the Nolichucky River intake, treatment plant, and water supplies and pump stations.
  • Wastewater Treatment operates the recently expanded facility serving Jonesborough, the Washington County Industrial Park, and several surrounding areas.

The treatment facility is located off Britt Drive at Jonesborough's west end near the railroad tracks. Treated water effluent travels more than 6 miles to discharge into the Nolichucky River at Mile Marker 84.5.
