About Us
We are proud to present our Annual Water Quality Report for 2017. This document informs our customers, the owners of the water system, about the quality of water we deliver to your homes daily.
Our commitment is to provide a safe and dependable water supply through consistent monitoring according to federal and state regulations. This report highlights our testing results for the period ending December 31, 2017. We continuously strive to enhance our treatment processes and protect our water resources, and are pleased to confirm our municipal water meets all state and federal standards.
Water Sources
Our supply comes from five deep groundwater wells ranging from 420 to 752 feet in depth. The water originates from a deep sandstone aquifer where water is stored between rock formations. Waunakee's groundwater begins as precipitation that falls in Dane County, percolates through soil layers, and undergoes natural filtration through rock strata before reaching the aquifer. This natural process produces high-quality water for our community.
For a summary of the source water assessment, please contact Randy Dorn at (608) 849-4107.
Health Information
All water, including bottled varieties, may contain small amounts of contaminants. Their presence doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. For more information about contaminants and potential health effects, contact the EPA's safe water hotline at (800) 426-4791.
Certain populations may be more vulnerable to water contaminants, including individuals undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, people with HIV/AIDS or immune disorders, some elderly residents, and infants. These individuals should seek advice from healthcare providers regarding their water consumption.

The positive developments regarding Great Lakes water resources: In June 2016, the Great Lakes Compact unanimously approved Waukesha's application to obtain Lake Michigan water through a pipeline system. The plan includes treating the water and returning it entirely to the lake via the Root River.
We are committed to keeping all affected parties fully informed throughout this process. To facilitate this, we've created greatwateralliance.com as a central information hub for all project-related updates and developments.
