How Ion Exchange Actually Works in Your Home
The SoftPro Elite is built around the same fundamental science that water treatment professionals have trusted for decades — ion exchange. Here is exactly what that means for your home.
Hard water carries dissolved calcium and magnesium ions picked up as water moves through rock and soil. When this water enters the SoftPro Elite's resin tank, it flows through millions of tiny resin beads that carry a negative charge. Calcium and magnesium ions — both positively charged — are magnetically drawn to those beads and swap places with harmless sodium ions.
What exits the other end is not chemically altered water. It is simply water that no longer carries the hard water minerals responsible for scale on your showerheads, calcium deposits around faucets, dull laundry, and a film that makes soap difficult to lather. The ion exchange process happens continuously, silently, and completely automatically from the moment installation is complete.
When the resin reaches capacity — when it has captured as many calcium and magnesium ions as it can hold — the SoftPro Elite's smart control valve triggers a regeneration cycle. The concentrated salt solution from the brine tank flows backward through the resin, flushing those captured minerals to drain and recharging the beads for the next cycle.
This is hardness removal at the most efficient level modern residential softening technology offers.
