Public participation opportunities: Regular City Council meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month at 7 pm. The Public Board of Works & Safety meetings occur on the second Wednesday at 10 am and fourth Wednesday at 10 am monthly. All meetings take place in the council chambers at City Hall.

While no cryptosporidium has been detected in our treated finished water, it can be found in source water like our well field at the western edge of Pine Creek with its glacial aquifer. Brazil City Water Utility employs systematic monitoring, testing both source and finished water, with online turbidity monitors to assess contamination likelihood.
Water source information: Brazil Water Utility's supply comes from groundwater wells along the western edge of Walnut Creek in Putnam County. The Indiana Department of Environmental Management classifies this as a "Ground Water Source" not influenced by surface water.
Water hardness levels: Typical for this region, Brazil's water is considered hard due to natural iron and manganese mineral content. Hardness typically measures between 16-20 grains per gallon (the measurement often referenced for water softener settings).

Brazil, Indiana serves as Clay County's county seat with approximately 8,022 residents (according to 2014 American Community Survey) and is part of the "Wabash Valley" region in west-central Indiana. Our community is situated at the intersection of National Road US 40 and State Road HW 59.
Regional Access: We're positioned about 55 miles west of Indianapolis and 16 miles east of Terre Haute. Interstate 70 runs approximately 6 miles south of Brazil, offering excellent regional connectivity throughout the Midwest.
Community Heritage: Brazil boasts a significant history in the brick and clay industries. Today, we're home to Great Dane Trailers and various local manufacturers. Our stunning Forest Park Golf Course was designed by legendary golf course architect Pete Dye. Notable residents include George N. Craig, a local attorney who became Indiana Governor and National Commander of The American Legion, and 1980s pop musician Henry Lee Summer. Ivan Fuqua, after setting track records at Brazil High School, competed alongside Jesse Owens in the Olympics and won gold in the 1932 4×400m relay.

Education: The public school system, Clay Community Schools, includes four elementary facilities in Brazil, North Clay Middle School, and Northview High School. Nearby Terre Haute hosts four higher education institutions: Indiana State University, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (ranked as the state's top engineering school for 18 consecutive years), St. Mary's of the Woods College, and Harrison College.
