About Us
The City of Corpus Christi sources water from multiple reservoirs. Atascosa and Nueces Rivers supply Lake Corpus Christi, while the Frio River feeds the Choke Canyon Reservoir. Water from the Colorado River travels through the Mary Rhodes Phase 2 Pipeline to Lake Texana, then continues via the Mary Rhodes Phase 1 Pipeline to the O.N. Stevens Water Treatment Plant.
As water flows across land or underground, it naturally dissolves minerals and can pick up substances from animal presence or human activities. Potential contaminants in untreated sources include microorganisms, inorganic compounds, pesticides, and organic chemicals. A Resource Water Susceptibility Assessment is available at the Texas Drinking Water Watch website (http://dww2.tceq.texas.gov/DWW/).
According to the water loss audit submitted to the Texas Water Development Board (Jan-Dec 2017), our system lost approximately 1,968,883,749 gallons of water (8.65%). For questions about this audit, please call 361-826-1234.
The Corpus Christi area frequently experiences extended drought periods. We encourage residents to continue water conservation efforts as we work to maintain the highest water quality in Texas. Visit our website at http://www.cctexas.com/conservation for tips and information.
IMPORTANT HEALTH INFORMATION: Some individuals may be more vulnerable than the general population to certain microbial contaminants like Cryptosporidium. Infants, elderly persons, those undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, individuals on steroid treatment, and people with HIV/AIDS or other immune disorders should seek advice from healthcare providers. Guidelines for reducing infection risk are available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline (800-426-4791).
LEAD IN PLUMBING: Elevated lead levels can cause serious health problems, especially for pregnant women and young children. Lead primarily comes from materials and components in service lines and home plumbing. While we provide high-quality water, we cannot control the materials used in residential plumbing. If your water has been sitting for several hours, minimize lead exposure by flushing your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for drinking or cooking.
We regularly monitor water for corrosivity to ensure the system meets all regulations. If you're concerned about lead, you can have your water tested. Information about lead in drinking water, testing methods, and exposure reduction is available at 800-426-4791 or http://www.epa.gov/safewater/lead.
