Florida Water Utility Companies

Temple Terrace is dedicated to providing residents with safe, reliable quality municipal water. The city employs advanced equipment and testing methods to ensure water safety and quality. This year's Water Quality Report explains our water sources, treatment processes, and comprehensive test results.

Water is pumped from the Floridian aquifer through 10 groundwater wells situated throughout the City. At our treatment facilities, the raw water undergoes aeration, lime-softening, filtration, fluoridation, corrosion control treatment, and chlorination. We're proud to report that again this year, Temple Terrace had zero water quality compliance violations from regulatory agencies.

Florida's Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) conducts Source Water Assessments (SWA) for all public water supplies. The City's assessment was initially performed in 2004 and has been updated 11 times through 2017. The assessment identified that some wells may face moderate risk due to nearby petroleum tanks, while others show low risk from proximity to a Class 5 injection well. The complete SWA report is available online at www.dep.state.fl.us/swapp.

The moderate-risk petroleum tanks are double-lined above-ground containers near our treatment facilities. These tanks undergo regular inspection and maintenance to ensure structural integrity. Our water monitoring program regularly tests for petroleum-associated compounds, and to date, none have been detected in our water supply.

For vulnerable populations—including those undergoing cancer treatment, transplant recipients, people with HIV/AIDS or immune disorders, some elderly individuals, and infants—special precautions may be necessary. These individuals should consult their healthcare providers about their municipal water consumption. Guidelines for reducing infection risks from Cryptosporidium and other microbiological contaminants are available through the Safe Drinking Water Hotline (1-800-426-4791).

In 2017, our Public Works Water Division distributed over 1.292 billion gallons of water. Approximately 82% of the 3.2 million gallons used daily comes from the Whiteway Water Treatment Plant, with the remaining 18% from the Sunningdale Water Treatment Plant. Our system maintains water pressure between 55-65 psi and includes more than 120 miles of underground water mains, five storage tanks with 2.8 million gallons capacity, and 10,000 water meters serving over 32,000 residents.
