Pinellas County Utilities Municipal Water Report Information

Pinellas County Utilities and Tampa Bay Water conduct regular screening for contaminants in your municipal water according to Federal and State regulations. This report primarily reflects monitoring results from January 1 to December 31, 2017, though some data presented may be from earlier testing conducted in compliance with legal requirements.

The EPA mandates monitoring of over 80 potential water contaminants. The tables in this report show only those substances actually detected in your water supply. For a complete Tampa Bay Water 2017 CCR, please contact them directly at (727) 796-2355.

Utilities customers receive potable water from Tampa Bay Water's regional supply system. This water comes from a blend of groundwater, treated surface water, and desalinated seawater. The primary groundwater source consists of eleven regional wellfields drawing from the Floridan Aquifer. Surface water primarily comes from the Alafia River, Hillsborough River, C.W. Bill Young Regional Reservoir, and Tampa Bypass Canal. Seawater for desalination is sourced from Hillsborough Bay.

The groundwater from Eldridge-Wilde Well Field undergoes a three-stage treatment process: first, hydrogen sulfide removal (a naturally occurring element with unpleasant odor); second, disinfection with free chlorine to achieve 99.99% microbial inactivation; and third, formation of chloramine disinfectant by combining chlorine and ammonia to maintain disinfection throughout the distribution system.

After blending with Tampa Bay Water's water mix, Utilities provides additional treatment: adjusting chloramine levels with sodium hypochlorite, stabilizing pH with sodium hydroxide, applying polyphosphate inhibitor for corrosion control, and adding fluoride for dental health benefits (since March 2013). This final water blend receives further chloramine adjustments at pumping stations before distribution to homes and businesses.
