Douglas is located in southern Marshall County in northeastern Alabama. The town operates under a mayor/city council governance structure.
First settled in the mid-19th century, Douglas has maintained its agricultural community roots. The town's educational facilities expanded with its first school built in 1898, followed by Douglas Academy in 1909. Primary, middle, and high schools were established in 1921, 1926, and 1932 respectively.
The municipal water system was first constructed in 1966, twelve years before the town's incorporation in 1978. According to the 2010 Census, Douglas had a population of 744, with a median household income of $46,750 and per capita income of $19,080.
Educational facilities in Douglas are part of the Marshall County School System, serving approximately 2,150 students with 125 teachers across elementary, primary, middle, and high school levels. Community events include an annual Christmas parade, and the town maintains a sports complex with baseball and softball fields.
