Esta información contiene datos importantes sobre su agua potable. Tradúzcalo o hable con un profesional que lo entienda bien.

The United States boasts one of the finest municipal water supplies globally. However, many residents who previously took their tap water for granted are now asking important questions: How safe is my water? Where does it come from and how is it treated? What can I do to protect my water supply?

In 1974, Congress enacted the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) to safeguard public health by regulating the nation's public water systems and protecting water sources. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and state partners implement this legislation. Since 1999, water suppliers must provide annual Consumer Confidence Reports to their customers, answering these common questions.

The City of Lawrenceville has delivered clean, safe water to the community for nearly a century. As demonstrated in this annual report for 2017, our water exceeded the strict guidelines set by Georgia State and the U.S. EPA. In 2017, our water department distributed 793,310,000 gallons to customers. Approximately 634,503,000 gallons (80%) was purchased from Gwinnett County, which uses Lake Lanier as its source. The remaining 158,807,500 gallons (20%) came from wells located in the Piedmont Aquifer.

Because our system combines surface water and groundwater, the Environmental Protection Division considers our distribution system "blended." The City's Source Water Assessment Plan was completed on June 22, 1999. Lawrenceville's wells face higher risk due to numerous potential pollution sources in the wellhead protection area.

The City maintains a wellhead protection plan and works diligently to ensure safety. However, potential pollution sources exist within the three defined zones: Control Zone, Inner Management Zone, and Outer Management Zone. These include vehicle parking, monitoring wells, treatment facilities, utilities, highways, railroads, storage tanks, repair shops, industrial facilities, and more.

Gwinnett County collaborates with the Georgia Mountains Regional Development Center and other Lake Lanier water utilities to complete their plan. For questions about Gwinnett County's SWAP, call 678-376-6700.

Water costs are rising as we address aging infrastructure, comply with health standards, and expand service areas. Despite potential price increases, water remains a good value. For questions about this report or our water utility, contact Robert Paul at 678-824-6501 or write to: PO Box 2200, Lawrenceville, GA 30046.

We want our valued customers to stay informed about their water utility. You're encouraged to attend regular public meetings on the first Monday of each month at 7 PM in the Town Hall auditorium at 70 S. Clayton Street. Learn more online at www.epa.gov/gov/safewater/dwinfo.htm or www.lawrencevillega.org. Additional questions can be directed to 678-824-6501.

To ensure tap water safety, EPA establishes regulations limiting contaminant levels in public water systems. FDA regulations set similar limits for bottled water to provide equal public health protection. All drinking water, including bottled water, may reasonably contain small amounts of some contaminants. Their presence doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. For more information about contaminants and potential health effects, call the EPA's Safe Drinking Water Hotline (1-800-426-4791).
