About this Report: We are pleased to present this year's water quality report. Our consistent goal is to provide you with a safe and reliable water supply. If you have questions or wish to participate in community opportunities that may affect water quality, please contact ASHTON KUTCHER LAMBRECHT at 970-532-2096.

General Information: Most water, including bottled varieties, can reasonably be expected to contain at least small amounts of some contaminants. The presence of contaminants doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. For more information about contaminants and potential health effects, contact the EPA's Safe Drinking Water Hotline (1-800-426-4791) or visit http://water.epa.gov/drink/contaminants.

Vulnerable Populations: Some individuals may be more vulnerable to contaminants than the general population. Immunocompromised persons such as those undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, people with HIV/AIDS or other immune disorders, some elderly, and infants may face higher infection risks. These individuals should seek advice about drinking water from healthcare providers.

Water Sources and Potential Contaminants: Our water sources include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water travels over land or through ground, it dissolves naturally-occurring minerals and sometimes radioactive materials, and can pick up substances from animal presence or human activity. Potential contaminants include:

  • Microbial contaminants: viruses and bacteria from sewage treatment facilities, septic systems, agricultural operations, and wildlife
  • Inorganic contaminants: salts and metals occurring naturally or from urban runoff, industrial discharges, oil/gas production, mining, or farming
  • Pesticides and herbicides: from agriculture, urban runoff, and residential uses
  • Radioactive contaminants: naturally occurring or resulting from oil/gas production and mining
  • Organic chemical contaminants: byproducts of industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations, urban runoff, and septic systems

Safety Regulations: The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment regulates public water systems through contaminant limits. FDA regulations establish similar protections for bottled water.

Lead Information: Elevated lead levels can cause serious health problems, especially for pregnant women and young children. Lead in water typically comes from materials in home plumbing. If concerned, you can minimize exposure by flushing your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for consumption. For testing information and exposure reduction steps, contact the Safe Drinking Water Hotline or visit www.epa.gov/safewater/lead.

Water Treatment: Small amounts of chlorine and fluoride are added to water as it leaves the Carter Lake Filter Plant. Chlorine eliminates germs and prevents bacterial growth in the distribution system. Fluoride helps reduce tooth decay.

Colorado CDC Tap Water Info

For more information on your municipal water, visit the U.S. CDC:

Little Thompson WD Municipal Water Company and CDC
  1. Why do I have low water pressure?

Low water pressure may result from a partially open meter cutoff, faulty water meter, crimped service line, water main leak in your area, closed water valves on main supply lines, or clogged water softener restricting flow. Please call 432-685-7270 to report low pressure problems.

  2. What do plumbers mean when they reference the "town side" of the sewer line?

The "town side" refers to the sewer tap, which extends from your property line to the connection point with the main sewer supply line in the alley/street. The sewer line from your property line to your building is your private service line.

  3. I have water coming out of my meter box. What should I do?

Water emerging from a meter box typically indicates a possible leak. Please contact Customer Service/Billing at 432-685-7320 to report this issue.

  4. Why do I have discolored water coming from my tap?

Discolored water may result from excessive iron or manganese in the main supply line, recent water main maintenance in your area, or valve maintenance nearby. Contact Water & Wastewater at 432-685-7270 if you notice discoloration in your water.
