About Us
Our water meets all federal (EPA) municipal water requirements. This report summarizes the quality of water we provide to our customers, based on the most recent U.S. Environmental Protection Agency required testing.
Where Does Our Water Come From?
Our water comes from both groundwater and surface water sources. The groundwater is drawn from the Evangeline and Barioler aquifers, while surface water comes from Lake Harrisburg. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is currently updating a Source Water Susceptibility Assessment for our water sources, which will be provided to us this year.
Understanding Water Sources
Water sources include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water travels over land or underground, it dissolves naturally-occurring minerals and in some cases, radioactive materials. It can also pick up substances from animal or human activity. Potential contaminants in source water may include: microbes, inorganic contaminants, pesticides, herbicides, organic chemicals, and radioactive materials.
About Contaminants in Water
All municipal water, including bottled water, may reasonably contain small amounts of some contaminants. Their presence doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. When your water meets federal standards, there may not be any health advantages to purchasing bottled water or point-of-use devices. More information about contaminants and potential health effects is available through the EPA's Safe Drinking Water Hotline (1-800-426-4791).
Secondary Components
Many components found in water (like calcium, sodium, or iron) can affect taste, color, and odor. These are known as secondary components and are regulated by Texas, not the EPA. These are not health concerns, so they aren't required in this report, but they can significantly impact how your water tastes and looks.
