Ohio Water Utility Companies

Tate Monroe Water Association (TMWA) draws water from the Ohio River Area Aquifer. The system consists of eleven vertical wells and one collector well situated along the Ohio River near Clermontville and Moscow. The aquifer supplying TMWA has high vulnerability to contamination due to its geological properties and nearby potential contamination sources. This doesn't guarantee contamination will occur, but indicates conditions where groundwater could be affected by potential pollutants.

Protection of our water source requires community participation. By working together, we can ensure a safe water supply for future generations. TMWA maintains an emergency connection with Clermont County Water, used only during drought conditions or when system repairs are necessary.

Our municipal water comes from rivers, streams, lakes, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water travels over land or underground, it dissolves naturally-occurring minerals, sometimes radioactive materials, and can pick up substances from animal presence or human activity. Potential contaminants include:

  • Microbial contaminants from sewage plants, septic systems, agricultural operations and wildlife
  • Inorganic contaminants like salts and metals (naturally-occurring or from urban runoff, wastewater discharge, oil/gas production)
  • Pesticides and herbicides from agriculture, urban runoff, and residential usage
  • Organic chemical contaminants from industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations and waste systems
  • Radioactive contaminants that occur naturally or result from energy production and mining

The USEPA establishes limits on contaminants in public water systems to ensure tap water safety, while FDA regulations set similar standards for bottled water to provide equal public health protection.
