Erie County Perkins District

The Erie County Water Division has prepared this comprehensive report to inform customers about the quality of their municipal water throughout 2017. This document includes essential health information, detailed water quality test results, guidance on participating in decisions about your water supply, and information about water system connections.

Erie County Water meets all quality standards established by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA) and maintains a current, unrestricted license to operate. If you have questions or concerns about your water service, please contact the Erie County Water Division Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at (419) 627-7666.

We encourage public participation in community decisions affecting water quality. Regular Erie County Commission meetings take place every Thursday at 9:00 a.m. in the Commissioners' Chambers on the Third Floor of the Service Center at 2900 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Additional Commission meetings are held on the third Monday of each month at 9:00 a.m. in the Commissioners' Chambers at 247 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.

System Overview
The Erie County Water Distribution System is divided into three primary districts:

• Perkins District - Serving Perkins Township and portions of Huron, Miami and Oxford townships
• Margaretta District - Serving the villages of Bay View and Castalia
• East Erie District - Serving Berlin Heights, Berlin Township, and southern/eastern/western portions of Huron Township and Vermilion Township south of Vermilion City

The Erie County Water Division, under Director David W. Moyer, operates from 554 Water Road, Huron, OH 44839. The division manages 12 pump stations and 8 water storage tanks, distributing water through 312 miles of water mains ranging from 4 to 24 inches in diameter. In 2017, Erie County Water distributed 1.9 billion gallons of water to its customers.

1. Where can I recycle in the city? Single-stream recycling facilities are available at North Main and two additional locations in the county. Recycling information is available on the city website.
2. Can I hold a garage sale at my residence? City ordinances permit one garage sale per quarter (maximum 4 per year). Signs may only be displayed on the property where the sale is occurring. No permit required.
3. How do I dispose of large household items? Place bulky items like sofas or mattresses curbside next to your regular trash container on your collection day. Construction materials are not accepted, and all refrigerants must be professionally removed from appliances.
4. Who should I contact about stray or lost animals? The City Animal Control Officer can be reached through the Non-Emergency Police Dispatch at 352-5551.
5. Is there a map showing City Limits and Extraterritorial jurisdiction? Maps are available from the Development Services Department at City Hall. Contact the planning department at 512-309-6172.
6. Where do I pay property taxes? The city contracts with the County Tax Assessor to collect taxes at the local service center at 412 Vance Street. Contact them at 352-4140 or visit the county website.

Recycling Program Information

1. When does the new curbside recycling program begin? The program launches February 26, 2018. Blue 95-gallon carts will be delivered starting February 15.
2. What recycling services are available? The new single-stream program allows glass, plastic, paper and other recyclables to be placed in the same container without separation. The recycling facility at 1424 N. Main St. closes March 28, 2018.
3. How often will recyclables be collected? Collection begins February 26, 2018, occurring every other week on your regular trash day.
4. Why recycle? Recycling conserves natural resources, reduces landfill use, creates jobs, and saves energy.
5. What items can be recycled? Accepted materials include newspapers, magazines, office paper, food boxes, cardboard, aluminum and steel cans, plastic containers (#1-7), and glass bottles and jars. Please no plastic film, Styrofoam, or non-food glass.
