Minnesota Water Utility Companies

As required by the federal Safe Drinking Water Act, the City of Woodbury is providing testing results for its municipal water from January 1 to December 31, 2017. This report aims to improve residents' understanding of their water supply and highlight the importance of protecting our water resources.

Woodbury collaborates with the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) to test for over 100 potential contaminants. We're pleased to report that no contaminants were detected at levels violating federal or state standards. It's important to note that no water supply is completely contaminant-free. Drinking water standards protect Minnesotans from potentially harmful substances.

The municipal water comes from 19 groundwater wells ranging from 380 to 540 feet deep, drawing from the Jordan aquifer. Woodbury is committed to providing safe, reliable water that meets all federal and state quality requirements.

For questions about Woodbury's municipal water, contact Jim Westerman, utility superintendent, at (651) 714-3720 or Jim.westerman@woodburymn.gov. You can also inquire about participating in decisions affecting water quality.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) establishes safe drinking water standards that limit contaminant levels, ensuring tap water safety for most people. Similarly, the FDA regulates bottled water contaminants. Both tap and bottled water may contain small amounts of contaminants, which doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk.

Water Usage in Woodbury:
In 2017, Woodbury residents and businesses consumed nearly 2.6 billion gallons of water—averaging about 7.1 million gallons daily (MGD). A typical Woodbury household uses approximately 22,500 gallons quarterly. Usage is lower in winter (about 4.3 MGD) and higher in summer (about 15 MGD), primarily due to lawn irrigation. The highest daily summer usage in 2017 reached 18 million gallons.
