Mayor Butch Windschatten, the Board of Aldermen, and the Brandon Public Works Department are pleased to present the 2017 Annual Municipal Water Quality Report. This document aims to inform residents about the quality of water and services delivered daily to your homes.

Our primary objective is to provide a safe and dependable water supply. We continuously strive to improve our water treatment processes and protect our valuable water resources while keeping our valued customers informed about our services.

Currently, the City of Brandon operates eight wells, several storage tanks, one standpipe, and a booster pump station. Our wells draw from the Tempas and Cockfield formation aquifers. Our system adheres to all regulations established by State and Federal authorities, including monthly bacteriological sampling, regular inorganic testing, ongoing educational certification, and proper administrative management.

We're proud to report that our municipal water meets all federal and state requirements. Although monitoring has detected certain constituents, the EPA has determined these levels are safe for consumption. The City of Brandon routinely monitors for up to 154 constituents in your water as required by National and State regulations. Our monitoring results from January 1 to December 31, 2017 are shown in our annual report. As water flows over land or underground, it can absorb various substances including microbes, inorganics, organics, and radioactive materials. All water, even bottled water, typically contains at least minimal amounts of some constituents, though their presence doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk.

Fluoridation Information: To comply with "Regulation Governing Fluoridation of Community Water Supplies," Brandon maintained optimal fluoride levels (0.6-1.3 ppm) for all 12 months of the year, with 75% of samples falling within the target range.

Lead Awareness: Elevated lead levels can cause serious health problems, particularly for pregnant women and young children. Lead in drinking water primarily comes from materials in service lines and home plumbing. While the City of Brandon provides quality water, we cannot control the materials used in plumbing components. To minimize potential lead exposure, run your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for drinking or cooking. If concerned, you may have your water tested through the Mississippi State Department of Health Public Health Laboratory (601-576-7582).

Additional Information: For after-hours emergencies, contact Brandon Police Department at (601) 825-7225 to reach an on-call Public Works employee. All water meters are electronically read monthly, with consumption billed accordingly. If you have questions about readings or billing, please contact Public Works. Bills are due by midnight on the date specified, with unpaid balances subject to penalties and service disconnection. Utility service applications and disconnections must be requested in writing through the Public Works Department.
