LEAD INFORMATION: When present in elevated levels, lead can cause serious health concerns, particularly for pregnant women and young children. Lead in tap water primarily comes from materials and components associated with service lines and home plumbing systems. Corinth Gas and Water is responsible for delivering quality water but cannot control the variety of materials used in plumbing components.

If your water has been sitting for several hours, you can minimize potential lead exposure by flushing your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for consumption or cooking. If concerned about lead content, consider having your water tested. Information about lead in water, testing methods, and steps to minimize exposure is available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline or at http://www.epa.gov/safe water/lead. The Mississippi State Department of Health Public Laboratory offers lead testing - call 601-576-7518 to schedule testing.

FLUORIDATION COMPLIANCE: To comply with "Regulation Governing Fluoridation of Community Water Supply," CITY OF CORINTH GAS AND WATER DEPT. monitors fluoride levels carefully. For the previous calendar year, water samples maintained optimal fluoride levels (0.6-1.3 ppm) for 7 months, with 56% of fluoride samples falling within this optimal range.

NEED MORE INFORMATION? To learn more about Corinth Gas and Water Department or for water quality questions, visit our office at 305 West Waldron Street. Office hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Contact David Bass or Ashton Briggs at (662) 286-2263 or our treatment plant at (662) 396-2250. The City of Corinth Public Utility Commission meets at 7:00 PM on the second Friday monthly, and meetings are open to the public.

OUR MISSION: "To ensure consistent adequate supply of natural gas and water while providing highest quality service at reasonable cost to our customers, consistent with good management and sound business practices."

SOURCE WATER ASSESSMENT: The Safe Drinking Water Act (1996) requires states to develop Source Water Assessment Programs to evaluate public water supplies' susceptibility to contamination. The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality has completed our assessment, rating three wells as "low" risk and five wells as "moderate" risk. These ratings help systems in Mississippi understand relative susceptibility compared to other wells but should not be interpreted as indicating unsafe drinking water.

City of Corinth Municipal Water Report Information

The Corinth Gas and Water Department operates as a non-profit municipal utility governed by the Corinth Public Utilities Commission. This commission was established by special charter in June 1954 to ensure reliable access to natural gas and water at reasonable costs while maintaining quality service.

The Commission consists of five unpaid members, each serving five-year terms with one appointment or reappointment annually. This structure ensures continuous governance with experienced oversight. As a governing authority, the Commission remains accountable to Corinth residents according to Mississippi state law.

Water service extends to approximately 6,500 customers through 250 miles of distribution piping. The municipal water comes entirely from the Paleozoic Aquifer, accessed by 12 operational wells averaging 500 feet in depth. Each well site treats and purifies water independently, which may result in quality variations across locations. Five production sites utilize large pressure filters to remove dissolved minerals (primarily iron and manganese) before distribution.

The city's water infrastructure includes 6 elevated storage tanks, excellent system hydrodynamics, strong production capacity, and emergency pumping capabilities. These features provide Corinth with exceptional fire ratings that contribute to lower insurance rates for both the municipality and utility customers.

Natural gas is sourced from competitive producers, transported via interstate pipeline, and distributed through over 350 miles of mains and service lines to approximately 7,500 customers. The system continues to expand into surrounding communities as demand increases for economical and environmentally friendly energy sources.
