About Us
Is my water safe? We're pleased to present this year's Annual Water Quality Report (Consumer Confidence Report) as required by the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). This report provides information about your water source, its contents, and how it compares to standards set by regulatory agencies. Consider this a snapshot of last year's water quality assessment. We're dedicated to providing transparent information because informed residents are our greatest allies.
Should I take special precautions? Certain individuals may be more vulnerable to water contaminants than the general population. People with compromised immune systems—including those undergoing cancer treatment, organ transplant recipients, individuals with HIV/AIDS or other immune disorders, some elderly residents, and infants—may face higher infection risks. These individuals should consult healthcare providers about their drinking water options. Guidelines from EPA/CDC on reducing Cryptosporidium and other microbial contamination risks are available through the Safe Water Drinking Hotline (800-426-4791).
Where does my water come from? Our water supply is managed by the Brookhaven Water Department, which maintains 9 wells drawing from the Miocene series, citronella formation.
Source water assessment: Our assessment has been completed, with one well rated high susceptibility to contamination, seven wells rated moderate, and one well rated low. For questions, please contact our office at 601-833-7721.
Why are there contaminants in my tap water? All drinking water, including bottled varieties, naturally contains small amounts of certain contaminants. Their presence doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. For more information about contaminants and potential health effects, contact the EPA's Safe Drinking Water Hotline (800-426-4791).
How can I get involved? We ask all residents to help protect our water sources—they're vital to our community, lifestyle, and children's future. Board meetings occur on the first and third Thursday monthly at the Government Complex.
Water Treatment Process: Your water undergoes disinfection treatment through chlorine addition to eliminate harmful bacteria and microorganisms. This process is considered one of the 20th century's most significant public health advancements.
