City of Grenada Municipal Water Report Info

Originally, we operated as the City of Grenada utilities, managing water, sewer, and electric services. Our operations were based at the former coal burning plant located west of the Railroad on Bryant Street's north side, where the plant's smokestack still stands today. Later, the electric utility was sold to Mississippi Power and Light Company, leaving the City of Grenada with just the Water/Sewer utilities.

Today, we service approximately 266 square miles comprising roughly 1200 miles of water lines extending into various districts. We maintain about 500 miles of sewer lines with 60 sewage pumping stations. Our water infrastructure includes 19 water treatment facilities, 32 ground water pumps, 15 storage tanks, 2 water pumping stations and 21 RTU/telemetry units.

Currently, we have over 8000 water meters and 6000 sewer connections serving approximately 20,000 permanent residents plus visitors to our businesses and community facilities, including Grenada Lake and Camp McCain.

Mississippi CDC Tap Water Info

For more information on your municipal water, visit the U.S. CDC:

City of Grenada Municipal Water Company and CDC
  1. Why is my water usage showing such high numbers? Your meter readings may have been incorrectly recorded or difficult to read. You might have an undetected leaky toilet or faucet. Check your system for potential leaks and take a meter reading. Contact our office so we can help resolve this issue.
  2. What should I do about low water pressure? First inspect your meter and surrounding area for possible leaks. Then contact our office to report low pressure in your location.
  3. Why does my water appear discolored? Our local water has high iron content which can cause occasional discoloration. The water remains safe with adequate chlorine levels, but you may need to flush outdoor hose connections for 10-15 minutes. Draining your water heater twice yearly helps prevent orange-red tinting. Our goal is crystal clear water, so call us if flushing doesn't resolve the issue.
  4. What substances are added to our municipal water? We only use chemicals approved by the National Safety Foundation for treating drinking water.
  5. Is my water safe if it tastes, looks or smells unusual? All public water systems must maintain minimum chlorine levels of 0.2 mg/L (tested at line endpoints) by state law. Systems using chloramine require 0.5 mg/L levels. We test disinfectant levels daily to ensure safety.
  6. Why do particles appear when running hot water? Your water heater likely needs flushing. CAUTION: Most manufacturers recommend hiring a professional for this task. If doing it yourself, read the owner's manual carefully to avoid injury or damage.
  7. Why do I still have a balance when I've already sent payment? We may have received your payment after the due date or not received it at all. Contact our office for assistance.
  8. How can I check for leaks in my water system? Turn off all water sources including washing machines and dishwashers. Check the small dial on your water meter face. If this leak detector is spinning, you have a leak in your system.
  9. Can I connect my water service to another property? No, Texas Water Code prohibits multiple connections through residential meters, and your service agreement clearly states this isn't allowed. Contact our office for proper procedures.
  10. Why must I provide property deed information to change the service name? As a member-owned utility organized under Chapter 67 of Texas Water Code, membership is always in the property owner's name. We require proof of ownership before transferring membership.
