About Us
We are pleased to present the Annual Water Quality Report covering the 2017 calendar year. This document provides essential information about your water quality and the services we deliver daily.
Our primary goal is to provide you with safe, reliable municipal water. We want you to understand our ongoing efforts to improve water treatment processes and protect our natural water resources. The quality of your water remains our highest priority.
Water Sources and Potential Contaminants:
- Our water comes from groundwater sources
- Municipal water (both tap and bottled) originates from rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells
- As water travels through the environment, it dissolves naturally-occurring minerals and may pick up substances from animal or human activities
Possible contaminants include:
- Microbial contaminants - viruses and bacteria from sewage treatment, septic systems, agricultural operations, and wildlife
- Inorganic contaminants - naturally-occurring or human-introduced salts and metals from urban runoff, industrial discharge, oil/gas production, mining, or farming
- Pesticides and herbicides - from agriculture, urban runoff, and residential uses
- Organic chemical contaminants - industrial byproducts, petroleum production, gas stations, urban runoff, and septic systems
- Radioactive contaminants - naturally occurring or from oil/gas production and mining
Our Source Water Assessment Plan (SWAP) is available at our office. This plan evaluates potential contamination sources around our water supply and assigns a susceptibility rating. Our system has a "MEDIUM" susceptibility score.
The EPA establishes regulations limiting contaminant levels in public water systems, while FDA regulations set similar standards for bottled water. All water sources may contain some trace contaminants, which doesn't necessarily indicate health risks.
If you have questions about this report or want to learn more about your municipal water, please contact the CITY OF DENHAM SPRINGS at 225-667-8351.
Lead Information: Elevated lead levels pose serious health risks, especially for pregnant women and young children. Lead primarily comes from service lines and home plumbing materials. While we provide high-quality water, we cannot control plumbing component materials. To minimize lead exposure, flush your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for drinking or cooking.
The Louisiana Department of Health regularly monitors your water according to Federal and State regulations. The tables in our full report show monitoring results from January 1 to December 31, 2017.
