We are pleased to present our Annual Water Quality Report for 2017. This document outlines the quality of your municipal water and the services we provide daily (Este informe contiene información muy importante sobre su agua potable. Tradúzcalo o hable con alguien que lo entienda bien).

Our primary mission is to deliver safe, dependable water to your tap. We continuously strive to enhance our treatment processes and protect our valuable water resources. Your water quality is our top priority.

Municipal water sources (both tap and bottled) include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water travels across land or underground, it dissolves naturally-occurring minerals and sometimes radioactive materials, and may pick up substances from animal or human activities.

Potential contaminants in source water include:

• Microbial Contaminants – viruses and bacteria from sewage treatment plants, septic systems, agricultural operations, and wildlife
• Inorganic Contaminants – salts and metals that occur naturally or result from urban runoff, industrial discharges, oil/gas production, mining, or farming
• Pesticides and Herbicides – from various sources including agriculture, urban runoff, and residential uses
• Organic Chemical Contaminants – synthetic and volatile organics from industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations, urban runoff, and septic systems
• Radioactive Contaminants – naturally occurring or resulting from oil/gas production and mining

A Source Water Assessment Plan (SWAP) is available at our office. This plan evaluates the area surrounding our water sources where contaminants could potentially migrate into our supply. According to this assessment, our system has a 'MEDIUM' susceptibility rating. To review this plan, please contact our office.

The EPA establishes regulations limiting contaminant levels in public water systems to ensure tap water safety. Similarly, FDA regulations set limits for contaminants in bottled water to provide equal public health protection.

If present, elevated lead levels can pose serious health risks, particularly for pregnant women and young children. Lead typically enters drinking water from service line materials and home plumbing components. While Ward Two Water District provides high-quality water, we cannot control the materials used in household plumbing. When water sits unused for several hours, you can minimize potential lead exposure by flushing your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for drinking or cooking. For concerns about lead, consider water testing. Information about lead in drinking water, testing methods, and exposure reduction steps is available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline or at http://www.epa.gov/safewater/lead.

The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals - Office of Public Health regularly monitors your water for contaminants according to Federal and State laws. The tables in our annual report show monitoring results from January 1 to December 31, 2017. All drinking water, including bottled varieties, may reasonably contain at least small amounts of some contaminants. Their presence doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk.
