City of Jacinto City Municipal Water Company and EPACity of Jacinto City Municipal Water Report Info
Jacinto City traces its origins to November 1, 1841, when Texas granted land to James Wyatt Oates. By 1866, his grandson Charles Oates built the area's first residence where Whittier Elementary now stands. Initially, agriculture and logging dominated the local economy.
The development of the Houston Ship Channel and growth of oil refining transformed the region. In 1917, a dirt path called Market Street was reinforced with shell, and by the 1920s, Holland Avenue extended from Clinton Drive to Market Street.
The rural landscape changed dramatically around 1942 when Frank Sharp began developing the first subdivision, then known as Industrial Acres. A commercial hub soon emerged featuring a theater, market, and eventually a post office. In 1946, residents joined forces to establish a General Law City, officially incorporating in May of that year.
