The City of Lakeport is nestled in beautiful Lake County, located in the heart of Northern California's wine region just north of the San Francisco Bay Area. Lakeport sits along the western shore of Clear Lake, California's largest natural freshwater lake spanning 68 square miles and offering premier boating and fishing experiences.
The area offers numerous recreational activities including hiking, biking, antiquing, off-roading, camping, bird watching, excellent restaurants, breweries, and wine tasting. With over 30 wineries and 9,000+ acres of vineyards, Lake County has emerged as one of America's fastest-growing winemaking regions. Lakeport is situated at 39.0430° N, 122.9158° W at an elevation of 1,355 feet above sea level.
Lakeport operates under a council-manager system as a full-service, general law city. A five-member City Council elected at large provides policy direction to Lakeport's City Manager. As an incorporated city, Lakeport serves as the county seat of Lake County. In the California State Legislature, Lakeport belongs to the second Senate District (represented by Democrat Mike McGuire) and fourth Assembly District (represented by Democrat Cecilia Aguiar-Curry). At the federal level, Lakeport falls within California's fifth congressional district, represented by Democrat Mike Thompson.
According to recent demographics, Lakeport encompasses 2.7 square miles with approximately 5,134 residents (2018 estimate) and a median household income of $43,588. The city contains 2,518 housing units with 1,198 (59.8%) owner-occupied and 804 (40.2%) renter-occupied properties. The homeowner vacancy rate is 5.1%, while the rental vacancy rate stands at 8.4%.
