About Us
WHERE DOES YOUR WATER COME FROM?
Water supplied by Citrus Heights Water District comes from two primary sources: treated surface water and local groundwater. San Juan Water District extracts and processes surface water from Folsom Lake, which is then distributed to area agencies.
Orange Vale Water Company and San Juan Water District receive 100% of their supply from treated surface water. Citrus Heights Water District customers receive a blend consisting of 94% treated surface water from San Juan Water District and 6% groundwater from local wells. Fair Oaks Water District provides 64.6% surface water and 35.4% groundwater.
SOURCE WATER ASSESSMENTS
Comprehensive source water assessments have been conducted for all water resources to identify potential contamination risks. The Folsom Lake assessment (completed in 2001) identified recreational activities, high-density housing developments, and associated infrastructure as primary vulnerability factors.
Groundwater well assessments for Citrus Heights Water District (completed in 2002, with updates in 2008, 2009, and 2015) identified urban commercial activities as potential vulnerability factors, including gas stations, dry cleaners, underground storage tanks, and auto repair facilities. Despite these potential risks, no associated contaminants have been detected in concerning levels.
Water treatment processes include conventional filtration and disinfection designed to remove potential contaminants. Your municipal water consistently meets all federal and state quality standards.
