About Us
EID manages approximately 75,500 acre-feet of water from various sources in the Sierra Nevada foothills. (An acre-foot equals one acre of land covered in one foot of water, containing 325,851 gallons.)
Jenkinson Lake at Sly Park provides nearly half of the Main System's water supply and is processed at the Reservoir A treatment facility in Pollock Pines. Forebay Reservoir in Pollock Pines supplies water to the Reservoir 1 treatment plant under pre-1914 water rights from high-alpine streams and lakes within our Project 184 hydropower system.
We maintain a water agreement with the Bureau of Reclamation at Folsom Lake, which Reclamation operates as part of California's Central Valley Water Project. Additional water rights include ditch water rights (Weber, Pierce, and Hangtown creeks), Weber Reservoir rights, and Permit 21112 for Project 184 water—all delivered through the El Dorado Hills treatment plant. The EID Main water system serves 40,605 accounts across a 225-square-mile area.

El Dorado Irrigation District is a water system special district operating under California Irrigation District Law (Water Code §20500, et seq.) and related regulations (Water Code §22975, et seq.). The District serves approximately 110,000 residents throughout northern El Dorado County.
Traveling east on Highway 50 from the Sacramento County line to South Lake Tahoe offers a panoramic view of EID's service territory and highlights the remarkable geographic diversity of the district. Water continues to be a defining force in shaping the economic, environmental, and cultural identity of our region.
From early American Indian settlements to the gold discovery in Coloma that launched the California gold rush, from clusters of black oak and manzanita to Sierra Nevada pine forests, from thriving vineyards and orchards to growing residential areas—water remains the essential connection.
EID serves diverse customer needs across the territory. We deliver municipal water to homes, schools, and businesses while providing recycled water from our treatment plants for lawns, gardens, and public landscapes. We operate Project 184, a hydroelectric power project with dams, reservoirs, and 23 miles of flumes, canals, siphons, and tunnels that received a 40-year license renewal in 2006. We also manage several recreation sites, including Sly Park Recreation Area near Pollock Pines and a 42-unit campground at Silver Lake.
In all operations, we strive to meet or exceed federal and state standards for water quality, environmental protection, and wildlife habitat preservation.
