Certain residents may be more vulnerable to water contaminants than the general public. Those with compromised immune systems - including cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, individuals with HIV/AIDS, elderly residents, and infants - face heightened risks. These vulnerable groups should consult healthcare providers about their water consumption. This report summarizes the water quality provided to Robinson residents, based on the latest EPA-required assessments. This information aims to help community members better understand their water supply.

WATER SOURCES: Municipal water sources include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water travels across land or underground, it dissolves natural minerals and sometimes radioactive materials, and can pick up substances from animal presence or human activity. Robinson's water comes from both surface and ground sources - specifically deep wells in the Second (Lower) Trinity Aquifer and surface water from the Brazos River stored in Robinson Reservoir. The city also purchases treated water from Waco, which sources from Lake Waco.

SOURCE ASSESSMENT: The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) completed an assessment indicating some water sources may be susceptible to certain contaminants. Testing requirements are based on this susceptibility and previous data. For information about source water assessments and protection efforts, contact Greg Hobbs, Water Resources Director.

WATER QUALITY NOTICE: All water contains some contaminants. When water meets federal standards, there may be no health-based benefits to purchasing bottled water or filtration systems. The presence of contaminants doesn't necessarily indicate health risks. For more information about contaminants and potential health effects, call the EPA's Safe Drinking Water Hotline (1-800-426-4791).

FLUORIDE ADVISORY: This is a notice about your municipal water and a cosmetic dental issue potentially affecting children under nine years old. Low fluoride levels help prevent cavities, but children drinking water with more than 2 mg/L of fluoride may develop cosmetic discoloration of permanent teeth (dental fluorosis). Robinson's water has a fluoride concentration of 0.65-2.37 mg/L. Dental fluorosis in moderate or severe forms can cause brown staining and/or pitting of permanent teeth before they emerge from the gums. Children under nine should consider alternative water sources or treatment to avoid this cosmetic issue. Older children and adults can safely drink the water. Some naturally occurring substances (calcium, sodium, iron) can affect taste, color, and odor. These secondary constituents are regulated by Texas, not the EPA, and don't pose health concerns. The U.S. EPA requires water systems to test for up to 97 contaminants.

City of Robinson Municipal Water Report Information

Situated along the eastern edge of Robinson lies the small community of Downsville. Historical records indicate this land belonged to William Woods Downs, who utilized enslaved people to cultivate Brazos River bottomland in the mid-1800s. Following the Civil War, Downs reportedly provided each formerly enslaved family with housing and adjacent land, establishing a small settlement.

Railroad construction through the area occurred in the 1880s, with a post office established in 1890 when the community was officially named Downsville honoring Downs and his son, John Wesley Downs. By the late 19th century, Downsville featured a school, three flour mills, a general store, two markets, and approximately 100 residents. Throughout the 1900s, the post office closed, railroad service was discontinued, and the school consolidated, leaving Downsville as a picturesque, predominantly residential Central Texas hamlet with rich historical roots.

Early Postal History
McLennan County historically contained numerous post offices serving early Texas settlers. A U.S. Post Office named Hague opened on April 17, 1878, later renamed Robinson(ville) on January 14, 1879. This office operated until 1906 when mail service transferred to Waco, an arrangement continuing today. Rosenthal maintained a post office from 1888 until 1907 when service shifted to Lorena. Downsville similarly had a post office until service moved to Waco in 1907.

Railroad Development
Along portions of Robinson's current eastern boundaries once ran the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railroad. Nearby communities including Satin, Chilton, Lott, and Rosebud owe their early existence to this pioneer railroad, which connected to Waco from Yoakum between 1887 and 1891. Originally chartered in 1884 to link San Antonio to Aransas Pass for water access, the line eventually comprised 849 miles of track extending from southern Texas to Waco. The operational headquarters was established in Yoakum, near Victoria. The Falls County town of Lott was named for Uriah Lott, the line's primary promoter.
