Oregon Water Utility Companies

Tigard's primary municipal water comes from the Clackamas River, considered one of Oregon's highest quality sources. The watershed begins in Mount Hood National Forest, covering approximately 940 square miles of protected terrain.

Water is extracted from the Clackamas River, transported through a pipeline beneath the Willamette River, and processed at the Lake Oswego Tigard Water Treatment Plant in West Linn. The comprehensive treatment process includes:

  • Filtration to remove sediment and microorganisms
  • Ozone treatment to eliminate taste and odor-causing compounds
  • Disinfection to neutralize harmful organisms and protect water throughout distribution

The Lake Oswego Treatment Plant expansion and Tigard connection infrastructure were completed in 2016, providing residents with a resilient supply featuring excellent water quality. During peak demand periods, Tigard supplements with water from two city-owned aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) wells and a native groundwater well.

The ASR wells are filled with treated water during winter months when consumption is lower, creating a strategic reserve that can be tapped during summer demand spikes when additional supply is needed.
