The Altoona Water Authority (AWA) is proud to present our 2017 Annual Municipal Water Quality Report. This document provides essential information about your water system, quality standards, and important health-related data.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection require public water utilities to provide annual Consumer Confidence Reports to their customers. Our mission at AWA is ensuring a clean, safe, and reliable water supply for all residents.

We invite you to attend our regularly scheduled meetings held on the third Thursday of each month at 9:00 am at our Management Office (900 Chestnut Avenue, Altoona). The AWA Board of Directors for 2018 includes Chairman Bill Neugebauer, Vice Chairman Omar Strohm, Secretary Frank Ake, Treasurer Corey Gehret, and Assistant Secretary/Treasurer Marla Marcinko.

Our water supply comes from twelve surface water locations in west-central Blair County. These reservoirs are situated in the Juniata Watershed of the Susquehanna River Basin. Potential contamination sources include transportation corridors, the Horseshoe Curve railroad, illegal dumping, abandoned mines, faulty septic systems, and natural gas infrastructure.

AWA employs advanced treatment processes at our facilities. Water undergoes ozonation to eliminate bacteria and organisms like Giardia and Cryptosporidia, followed by coagulation, flocculation, and dual media filtration. We add corrosion inhibitors to protect pipes and chlorine for disinfection before distribution. Our rigorous testing protocols ensure compliance with all Safe Drinking Water regulations.

The water supply system consists of eleven surface water reservoirs with combined storage of 2.85 billion gallons and a total net yield of 14.61 million gallons daily.
