Emmaus Borough Public Water Municipal Water Report Info

Emmaus, Pennsylvania is a charming community of 11,500 residents nestled on the northern slope of South Mountain. Located 50 miles north of Philadelphia and 20 miles west of the Delaware River, it carries a rich history dating back to 1759.

Initially established as a closed Moravian settlement on church-owned land, Emmaus later incorporated as a Pennsylvania borough in 1859. The railroad's arrival that same year expanded opportunities for manufacturing and industrial development. Early industries included iron mining, iron furnaces, a foundry, and a machine company. Late 19th century saw diversification with silk manufacturing, cigar factories, and bottling operations.

During the first half of the 20th century, Emmaus significantly expanded its boundaries through annexation of lands from Salisbury and Upper Milford Townships, creating new residential development opportunities. By the 1960s, the Borough reached its current size and completed infrastructure modernization projects, establishing itself as a full-service municipality with comprehensive parks, municipal water and sewer systems, highway and police departments, and a public library.

Today, Emmaus thrives as a vibrant community with a diverse blend of residential, commercial, and light industrial activities. It serves as a productivity hub in southwestern Lehigh County, offering various housing options in an authentic community environment.
