Pennsylvania Water Utility Companies

Our water treatment facility uses surface water collected from an intake structure located in the Ohio River. The River Alert Information Network (RAIN) completed a Source Water Assessment of our surface water source in 2016.

The assessment identified potential vulnerabilities including accidents along transportation routes (roads, railways, river traffic), bridges, marinas, boat traffic, auto repair shops, truck terminals, utility substations, residential areas, combined sewer overflows, road deicing operations, and salt storage facilities.

Overall, our surface water source has been rated as having a high risk of significant contamination. Complete assessment reports are available at the Authority office and PADEP Southwest Regional Office in Maryland (Records Management Unit: 412-442-4000). Summary reports can be found at our office and on the PADEP website at www.dep.state.pa.us/dep/depurate/watertight/WC/Subjects/SrceProt/SourceAssessment/default.htm.
