About Us
BCWSA is dedicated to delivering reliable, high-quality municipal water that meets or exceeds all state and federal quality standards. Our water undergoes rigorous testing through certified laboratories using advanced analytical methods. We're pleased to present this Water Quality Report as required by the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), showing our 2018 water testing results.
Along with laboratory findings, this report includes information about your water source and how it compares to EPA and state standards. For questions or concerns, please contact Erin Rapp at 215-343-2538 x112 or visit us online at www.bcwsa.net.
Water Source
The Fox Run System is supplied by one well located in Solebury Township, Bucks County, PA.
Water Quality Information
Sources of municipal water (both tap and bottled) include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water travels over land or underground, it dissolves naturally-occurring minerals and sometimes radioactive materials, and can pick up substances from animal presence or human activity.
Potential Contaminants
- Microbial contaminants like viruses and bacteria from sewage treatment facilities, septic systems, agricultural operations, and wildlife
- Inorganic contaminants including salts and metals (naturally occurring or from urban runoff, industrial/domestic wastewater, oil/gas production, mining, farming)
- Pesticides and herbicides from agriculture, urban runoff, and residential uses
- Organic chemical contaminants including synthetic and volatile organics from industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations, urban runoff, and septic systems
- Radioactive contaminants that can be naturally occurring or result from oil/gas production and mining
EPA regulations limit contaminant levels in public water systems to ensure tap water safety. We treat water according to these regulations. FDA regulations establish similar limits for bottled water to provide equal public health protection.
All municipal water, including bottled water, may reasonably contain at least small amounts of some contaminants. The presence of contaminants doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. For more information about contaminants and potential health effects, call the EPA's Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 800-426-4791.
Community Participation
Residents can help ensure water safety by reporting suspicious activity near water tanks, reservoirs, or hydrants to our office at 215-343-3946 (available 24/7). The BCWSA Board of Directors meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 8:30am and fourth Monday at 7:00pm in the public meeting room at 1275 Almshouse Road, Warrington, PA. The public is welcome to attend.
Water Conservation Tips
The average U.S. household uses approximately 400 gallons of water daily (75 gallons per person). Simple changes can make a significant difference:
- Take shorter showers - a 5-minute shower uses 4-5 gallons compared to 40 gallons for a bath
- Turn off water while brushing teeth, washing hair, and shaving to save up to 500 gallons monthly
- Install water-efficient showerheads - inexpensive, easy to install, and can save 750 gallons monthly
- Fix leaky toilets and faucets - faucet washers are inexpensive and quick to replace
- Position sprinklers to water only lawns, apply water at soil absorption rate, and water during cooler times to reduce evaporation
- Teach children about water conservation for future generations
- Visit www.epa.gov/watersense for more information
Special Health Warnings
Some individuals may be more vulnerable to water contaminants than the general population. Immunocompromised persons (cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, HIV/AIDS patients, some elderly, and infants) may be particularly susceptible to infections. These individuals should seek advice about municipal water from their healthcare providers. EPA/CDC guidelines for reducing Cryptosporidium and other microbial contamination risks are available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 800-426-4791.
Lead Information
Elevated lead levels can cause serious health problems, especially for pregnant women and young children. Lead in municipal water primarily comes from materials and components in service lines and home plumbing. While BCWSA provides high-quality water, we cannot control the materials used in plumbing components. When water has been sitting for several hours, minimize lead exposure by flushing your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for drinking or cooking. If concerned about lead, consider having your water tested. Information about lead in water, testing methods, and exposure reduction steps is available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 800-426-4791 or www.epa.gov/safewater/lead.
Arsenic Information
While our water meets EPA standards for arsenic, it does contain low levels of this mineral. EPA's standard balances current understanding of arsenic's health effects against removal costs. EPA continues studying low-level arsenic effects, known to cause cancer at high concentrations and linked to skin damage and circulatory problems.
Water Quality Data
The tables in this report list all water contaminants detected during 2018. Contaminant presence doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. Unless noted otherwise, data represents testing from January 1 - December 31, 2018. Some contaminants are monitored less than annually since their concentrations don't change frequently.
