About Us
WATER PROGRAM INFORMATION: This report highlights our water quality and what it means for residents. If you have questions about this report or your water utility, please contact Robert Harrington at 814-724-6057. We encourage you to stay informed about your water supply. To learn more, attend our monthly meetings held on the third Wednesday at 2:00 pm at 18160 Rogers Ferry Road, Meadville, PA 16335.
SOURCE OF WATER: Our water comes from 7 groundwater wells located in an unnamed glacial outwash aquifer composed of sand and small rocks. Each well is approximately 80 feet deep and can produce up to 1 million gallons daily. We're proud that our Wellhead Protection Plan was approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection on September 18, 2008. This plan received the Pennsylvania Rural Water Association Source Water Protection System of the Year award in April 2009 and the US Environmental Protection Agency Region 3 Source Water Protection Award in September 2009.
Our water source assessment found potential vulnerability to non-point pollution from a nearby shooting range, former manufacturing sites, hydrocarbon storage facilities (gas stations), and transportation corridors. Overall, our source has a relatively low risk of significant contamination. Complete reports were distributed to municipalities, water suppliers, local planning agencies, and PADEP offices. The Wellhead Protection Plan is available for viewing at our office by calling 814-724-6057.
HEALTH INFORMATION: Some individuals may be more vulnerable to contaminants in municipal water than the general population. People with compromised immune systems—such as those undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, HIV/AIDS patients, elderly individuals, and infants—may be particularly at risk. These individuals should consult their healthcare providers about drinking water. EPA/CDC guidelines on reducing infection risk from Cryptosporidium and other microbial contaminants are available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline (800-426-4791).
WATER MONITORING: We regularly test for contaminants in your municipal water according to federal and state regulations. The tables in our full report show monitoring results from January 1 to December 31, 2017. Some data may be from previous years as permitted by the Safe Drinking Water Act, since certain contaminant concentrations don't change frequently.
