Pennsylvania Water Utility Companies

Ambridge Water Authority (AWA) customers benefit from an abundant water supply drawn from an exceptional source. The water treatment facility extracts water from Service Creek Reservoir, a spring-fed, surface-water influenced upland reservoir containing 3.5 billion gallons of water—potentially the highest quality source water in western Pennsylvania.

This reservoir, specifically constructed by AWA in the early 1950s, is dedicated exclusively to providing water for residents within our service area and additional customers. Water travels over seven miles through pipelines to reach the treatment facility, where it powers a turbine that generates approximately 25% of the electricity needed for plant operations.

Throughout 2017, our facility delivered an average of 4.3 million gallons of purified water daily. We serve Ambridge, Harmony Township, Economy, Bell Acres, Baden, and portions of New Sewickley Township, as well as Edgeworth Municipal Authority (which serves Leet Township and Leetsdale). Our service population approaches 30,000 residents. Interconnections with West View Water Authority provide backup water flow when necessary.

Ambridge Water Authority Municipal Water Report Information

Ambridge Water Authority operates as a municipal authority within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. As such, it functions as a government unit rather than a private or publicly-owned business. Board members are appointed through action of Ambridge Borough Council (our incorporating municipality).

The following provides information about the individuals who govern and manage the authority, as well as the professionals who provide guidance and expertise. The history of AWA's formation is rich and fascinating. Many highly capable and dedicated individuals contributed to developing the water system as it exists today.

This work was sometimes challenging and not always appreciated or popular with the public. We honor those who had the foresight and determination to persevere in this important mission.
