North Penn Water Authority
About Us
NPWA maintains water quality through an annual hydrant flushing program conducted each spring. This systematic process removes potential calcium deposits from distribution pipes, ensuring cleaner water delivery. The Authority also implements a proactive water main replacement program, targeting old unlined cast iron pipes that can impact water quality and restrict flow.
These infrastructure updates are coordinated with PennDOT and local municipal road projects to minimize community disruption. In 2017, NPWA earned the prestigious Directors Award through the Partnership for Safe Water's Distribution System Optimization Program (DSOP). This made NPWA the first public water utility in Pennsylvania to join DSOP and among the earliest in North America to receive this recognition.
The award follows a comprehensive self-assessment of distribution operations including chlorine residual levels, pressure consistency, and water main break frequency. Expert reviewers from across the United States evaluate the final report, acknowledging NPWA's commitment to excellence in providing quality water that exceeds regulatory standards.
