Water Source Information: Our water comes from a groundwater well field along the Ohio River consisting of two radial collector wells and five vertical wells. The PA Department of Environmental Protection approved our Source Water Protection Plan on May 11, 2017.
The Plan identifies potential vulnerabilities, particularly from accidental spills along railways, roads, and waterways. Overall, our source has been assessed as having a high risk of significant contamination. Complete reports are available for review at the Municipal Water Authority office (160 Hopewell Avenue, Aliquippa, PA 15001).

The Municipal Water Authority of Aliquippa draws water from two spiral collector groundwater wells. An average of 2,433,258 gallons are extracted daily to serve the community. The MWAA property covers approximately 2.1 square miles across Aliquippa, Hopewell and Center Townships.
The system serves approximately 19,355 residents, including private customers from Hopewell and Raccoon Townships. Water pumped from the wells undergoes several treatment processes before distribution, including iron and manganese removal, softening, and disinfection to ensure safe consumption.
