About Us
The Clermont County Municipal water System manages three water treatment facilities that feed into a unified distribution network serving local customers. The MGS plant near Miamiville extracts water from wells in the Little Miami River Aquifer. In 2004, Ohio EPA conducted a Source Water Assessment for the MGS wellfield and identified it as highly vulnerable to contamination.
This vulnerability assessment is based primarily on the geological structure of the aquifer, which is shallow with minimal protective layers above it. Additional risk factors include nearby potential pollution sources. The EPA also noted nitrate presence in the water, indicating human impact on the aquifer. Despite these concerns, the water consistently meets all municipal standards. These wellfields undergo regular monitoring and are protected under an Ohio EPA-approved Wellhead Protection Plan. For additional information, residents can contact Rick Fueston at (513) 553-4113.
The PUB facility near New Middle East draws from the Ohio River Valley Aquifer. Ohio EPA has determined this aquifer also has high contamination susceptibility due to its thin protective layer and shallow depth. Potential contamination sources nearby and hydraulic connection to the Ohio River contribute to this assessment, though no evidence of current chemical contamination exists. For details about this facility's protection measures, contact Rick Fueston at (513) 553-4113.
The Bob McEwen Water Treatment Plant (BMW) near Batavia uses surface water from Harsha Lake, created by damming the East Fork of the Little Miami River. Surface water typically requires more extensive testing than groundwater, so regular chemical, bacteriological, and biological monitoring occurs. Ohio EPA completed a Source Water Assessment for BMW in 2004, identifying concerns about agricultural runoff, potential spills at transportation crossings, and residential waste systems in the watershed. For more information, contact Bernard Neyer at (513) 732-7945 or visit the Office of Environmental Quality website at www.oeq.net. After treatment, including granular activated carbon filtration, the lake water meets all required standards.
