About Us
The Easton Water Division is dedicated to providing, protecting and preserving water resources for future residents. Our primary responsibility is delivering high-quality water that meets all State and Federal standards while providing excellent customer service and professional leadership in our field.
Our 50 kW Solar Photovoltaic Project at Pumping Station #2 has been operational for over 7 years, generating 55,390 kilowatt hours this year alone. Since its commissioning in September 2010, we've produced 354,195 kWh of clean energy, supporting our environmental commitment.
We continuously monitor our water system for leaks using advanced digital correlation technology. Having completed 45 system-wide leak surveys since 1982, this program helps us maintain minimal unaccounted-for water losses. Our 24th consecutive annual system-wide unidirectional flushing program was conducted in April and October, removing mineral and organic deposits by moving high-velocity water through mains in a single direction – our most effective tool for maintaining water quality.
The Annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day took place on April 22, 2017, with 560 residents participating. We're thankful to the Easton Lions Club for assisting with electronics collection. The 2018 collection is scheduled for April 21st, and will include free document shredding to help combat identity theft.
Our 33rd Annual Open House was held on April 29, 2017, featuring the Award Ceremony for our Annual Water Conservation Poster Contest. With hundreds of entries from 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades, this educational initiative teaches students about water conservation. We appreciate the cooperation of Superintendent Dr. Andrew Keough and the Art Department staff. Our 34th Open House is scheduled for April 28, 2018.
Environmental Partners Group has completed design and permitting for the replacement Well #4, with construction expected to begin in early spring. We continue supporting the Canoe River Aquifer Advisory Committee throughout the year.
We congratulate John H. Fresh Jr. on his retirement after 37 years with the Town of Easton, including over 15 years as my assistant. His dedication to Easton, its residents, and the water works community has been exemplary.
Our staff remains committed to excellence, and I personally thank Shirley Yanikowski, Karen Gallo, Joshua Ford, Joseph Rich, Jeffery Cloonan, Michael O'Toole, Joseph Charron, Brian O'Neill, Andy Howarth, and Cory Sturtevant for their outstanding service.

Incorporated in 1725, the Town of Easton is strategically located between Boston, Cape Cod, and Providence. The community spans approximately 29 square miles with a 2010 population of 23,357. Easton operates under an Open Town Meeting system with a five-member Board of Selectmen serving three-year terms, who appoint a full-time Town Administrator to manage daily operations.
Community Growth
Though primarily residential, Easton has experienced significant positive development over the past decade. Recent growth includes two major shopping centers offering residents convenient access to national retailers. Three grocery stores are easily accessible from anywhere in town. The Easton Industrial Park is conveniently located just off Route 24. The community also boasts a vibrant independent business sector supported by the Easton Chamber of Commerce. Dining options range from large establishments to family restaurants, providing quality food choices and diverse ethnic cuisines.
Education
Easton citizens have consistently supported an excellent educational system. Renovations to Oliver Ames High School and Easton Middle School were completed in October 2008, providing modern facilities including a 1,200-seat theater. Oliver Ames offers comprehensive education with extensive honors and advanced placement courses. The 2008 MCAS scores placed students in the top 10% statewide for English/language arts and top 25% in mathematics. The school is recognized for outstanding music and athletic programs.
Stonehill College, a private Roman Catholic institution founded in 1948, offers over 70 academic programs across its 375-acre campus featuring lakes and wooded trails. The college actively supports the community through student teaching and sharing educational and athletic facilities.
Conservation and Historic Preservation
Residents enjoy access to the Natural Resource Trust "Sheep Pasture" and Borderland State Park, with approximately 15% of the town dedicated to conservation land. As a participant in the state's Community Preservation Act program, Easton recently purchased a $1.3 million parcel near Wheaton Farm, continuing its commitment to open space preservation.
The town's history is deeply connected to the Ames Shovel Company (established 1803) and the Ames family across generations. In the late 19th century, the family created a remarkable legacy by donating several monumental buildings designed by renowned architect H.H. Richardson, including Oakes Ames Memorial Hall, the Ames Free Library, and the Old Colony Railroad Station. The historic home "Wayside" (built 1912) was donated in 1960 and now serves as Town Hall.
