About Us
We're pleased to present this year's Annual Municipal Water Quality Report. This document informs you about the quality water and services we deliver daily. Our mission is to provide safe, reliable water, and we want you to understand and participate in our efforts to continuously improve our treatment system and protect our water resources.
Water Source Information: Our municipal water comes from surface water sources. We purchase treated water from Madison County Regional Water District and Huntsville Water Utilities. Huntsville Water Utilities also purchases treated water from Madison County Regional Water District, which uses Beaver Lake as its source.
Source Water Safety Assessment: The Arkansas Department of Health has completed a Source Water Vulnerability Assessment for our district. This assessment analyzes contamination potential and helps develop protection plans. Based on various criteria, our water source has been classified as having low susceptibility to contamination.
Potential Contaminants: As water travels over land or underground, it can pick up substances including:
- Microbial contaminants from sewage plants, septic systems, agriculture, and wildlife
- Inorganic contaminants like salts and metals (naturally occurring or from urban runoff, wastewater discharge, oil/gas production)
- Pesticides and herbicides from agriculture, urban runoff, and residential uses
- Organic chemical contaminants from industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations, and septic systems
- Radioactive contaminants that occur naturally or result from oil/gas production and mining
Health Considerations: All tap water may contain small amounts of contaminants, which doesn't necessarily indicate health risks. However, some individuals may be more vulnerable, including those with compromised immune systems (cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, HIV/AIDS patients), elderly persons, and infants. These individuals should seek advice from healthcare providers regarding water consumption.
Lead Information: Elevated lead levels can cause serious health problems, especially for pregnant women and young children. Lead in municipal water primarily comes from materials in service lines and home plumbing. While we provide high-quality water, we cannot control the materials used in plumbing components. You can minimize potential lead exposure by flushing your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for consumption.
Contact Information: For questions about this report or your water utility, please contact Rod Reynolds, Manager, or Patti Cline, Office Manager at 479-738-2214. We encourage our customers to stay informed about their water programs. Our meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM at the Water Office (27271 Highway 23, Huntsville).
