How to check your water system for leaks:
- Locate your water meter
- Take two readings - one at night after water usage has stopped and another in the morning before any water is used
- Calculate the difference to determine if water leaked overnight
- If you suspect a leak, inspect pipe connections and toilets
Checking for silent toilet leaks:
- Add a small amount of food coloring to the tank (DO NOT FLUSH)
- Wait 10 minutes without flushing
- If color appears in the toilet bowl, you have a silent leak, typically located around the flapper valve at the tank bottom
