About Us
Why do we provide a Water Quality Report? The EPA oversees public water safety throughout the United States. Following the 1974 Safe Drinking Water Act, the EPA gained authority to establish drinking water quality standards and supervise water suppliers nationwide.
All community water systems must deliver a Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) annually to inform customers about their water quality. These reports contain specific information about contaminant levels detected during the previous year, available by July 1st each year.
The EPA sets safe contaminant thresholds, and your water quality report shows how your local supply compares to these standards. The report includes EPA standards in data tables for each regulated contaminant found, allowing you to evaluate your water's safety.
Is North Kona water safe? Yes, it is. Last year, as in previous years, our tap water met all EPA and State health requirements. The Hawaii Department of Water Supply (HDWS) carefully monitors water sources and proudly reports full compliance with drinking water standards.
Why do contaminants appear in municipal water? All water, including bottled varieties, naturally contains small amounts of some contaminants. Their presence doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. For more information about contaminants and potential health effects, contact the EPA Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1-(800) 426-4791. For questions about this Water Quality Report, please contact Kawika Uyehara, P.E., at 961-8670.
