Ramsey Municipal Water Company and EPARamsey Municipal Water Report Info
Ramsey is a northwestern community in Anoka County with approximately 23,800 residents. The city is uniquely positioned between two major waterways: the Rum River and Mississippi River. The city's name originates from the steamboat "The Governor Ramsey," named after Minnesota's first territorial governor, which brought many early settlers to the area.
Historical structures in Ramsey include the Old Ramsey Town Hall, located west of Highway 47 and north of County Road 116. This 19th-century building, originally a schoolhouse, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and awaits future use while being carefully preserved.
Residents choose Ramsey for its rural character, abundant wetlands, wildlife, and diverse housing options. The community features farms, large-lot single-family homes, and urban-sized lots with starter to executive-style residences. Recent developments include senior apartments and townhomes. After slower growth from 1997-2000, residential construction increased in 2001, particularly within the urban service area.
The business district continues to expand with three commercial parks: Energy Park, Business Park 1995, and Gateway Park. Since 1995, the city has added 1,755,660 square feet of industrial space, demonstrating commitment to environmentally responsible economic development with Connexus Energy as a leading employer.
Future plans include developing retail and commercial zones with restaurants, shopping, entertainment, and employment opportunities. Ramsey is served by two educational districts: Elk River Number 728 and Anoka-Hennepin Number 11, with students consistently performing above state and national averages on standardized tests.
