We are proud to welcome you to the Water Works & Sewer Board of the City of Selma, which has been serving the residents of Selma and surrounding areas since 1966.
Our organization operates as a public utility focused on acquiring, building, operating, maintaining, improving and expanding the water system throughout Selma and nearby territories.
The board is managed by five directors appointed to six-year terms by the Selma City Council. We've established this website to enhance customer service and provide easier access to information. It remains our honor to serve the community with high-quality water and sewer services.

Selma Water Works and Sewer Board Municipal Water Company and CDC- Is tap water safe to drink? The District consistently monitors water quality at all wells before distribution. All test results are reviewed by the Department of Health and must meet State and County standards before water can be distributed to residents. The Garden City Park Water District confirms that our water meets all requirements set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, New York State Department of Health, and Nassau County Department of Health.
- What is in my tap water? All drinking water, including bottled varieties, may contain trace amounts of some contaminants. Their presence doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. - What is the source of our water? The District draws groundwater from wells drilled into the Magothy aquifer.
- Who maintains water service lines? Property owners are responsible for maintaining water service lines and related equipment at their own expense.
- Why is chlorine added to our water? State law requires the Garden City Park Water District to chlorinate water supplies until the Nassau County Health Department provides a disinfection waiver.
- Why am I charged for water leaks? Consumers are responsible for all water passing through their meter, including from leaks. For service line leaks before the meter, the District may estimate unmetered water costs.
- Is our water hard or soft? The water typically ranges from soft to moderately hard. See the Annual Water Quality Report for specific details.
- Why do I need a backflow prevention device? These devices, most commonly Double Check Valves (DCVs), are required for properties with underground sprinkler systems. They prevent contamination of the public water supply by containing water within your system. All backflow devices must be inspected annually by a Certified Back-Flow Tester.
- What treatments are added to our water? Water receives sodium hydroxide treatment at each well site for pH adjustment and corrosion control, plus sodium hypochlorite for disinfection. Additional details are available in the Annual Water Quality Statements.
