Alabama Water Utility Companies

We are proud to provide a summary of the water quality supplied to our community throughout the past year. The Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) requires utilities to issue an annual "Consumer Confidence" report to customers alongside other legally required notices. This report details our water source, content, and the safeguards our testing and treatment processes provide.

East Alabama Water, Sewer, and Fire Protection District is committed to delivering the safest and most reliable water supply possible. Informed customers are our strongest allies in maintaining safe municipal water. We invite you to participate in decisions about our municipal water at our monthly Board of Directors meetings, held every third Thursday at 5:30 PM EST at our offices on 150 Fob James Drive, Valley, Alabama.

Our current Board includes: Mr. Terrell Bishop, Mr. Andrew Leak, Mr. Bob Johnson, Mrs. Yvonne Stanford, Mr. Chuck Goodwin, Mr. Kim Williams, and Mr. Jerry Thrower. For information about this water quality report or any District business, please contact District Manager Tony Segrest at (334) 756-7150. Find us online at www.eawsfd.com and Facebook.com/eastalabamawatersewerandfiredistrict.

Water Source: We receive our municipal water from the Chattahoochee Valley Water Supply District, drawn from the Chattahoochee River in Lanett, Alabama. Their surface water treatment plant utilizes oxidation, chemical coagulation, chlorination, fluoridation, pH adjustment, and filtration to produce potable water. We also maintain as-needed connections with Beulah Utilities District, Randolph County Water Authority, and City of West Point Georgia.

Source Water Assessment: In 2017, Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood, Inc. completed an assessment with ADEM and the District, identifying 60 potential contamination sources. After thorough evaluation, six sites were determined to have moderate risk while 54 had low risk to our water source. A complete copy of this assessment can be reviewed at our Valley, Alabama offices.

Additional Lead Information: Elevated lead levels can cause serious health problems, especially for pregnant women and young children. Lead in tap water typically comes from materials and components in service lines and home plumbing. While we provide high-quality municipal water, we cannot control materials used in plumbing components. To minimize potential lead exposure, flush your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for drinking or cooking when it has been sitting for several hours.

The Chattahoochee Valley Water Supply District uses Polyortho Phosphate (a complex, linear chain compound) for optimal corrosion control, creating a protective barrier between water and system piping to reduce corrosion scaling and harmful metal leaching. This EPA and ADEM-recognized treatment method has successfully met 1991 EPA Lead and Copper Rule requirements. If concerned about lead, consider having your water tested. More information is available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline or at http://www.epa.gov/safewater/lead.

For additional testing information or a more detailed report, please contact East Alabama Water, Sewer, and Fire Protection District at (334) 756-7150, email customerservice@eawsfd.com, or write to P.O. Box 37, Valley, AL 36854.
