About Us
Currently, high levels of lead can pose serious health risks, particularly for pregnant women and children. Lead in tap water primarily comes from materials associated with service lines and home plumbing systems. While Toho Water Authority is responsible for delivering quality water, they cannot control the materials used in residential plumbing components.
If your water has been sitting for several hours, you can minimize potential lead exposure by running your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for consumption or cooking. If concerned about lead in your water, consider having it tested. Information about lead in drinking water, testing methods, and steps to minimize exposure is available via the Safe Drinking Water Hotline or at http://www.epa.gov/safewater/lead.
Water sources (both tap and bottled) include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water flows over land surfaces or through underground layers, it dissolves naturally-occurring minerals, sometimes radioactive materials, and may pick up substances from animal presence or human activity.
