About Us
The SFPUC conducts annual watershed sanitary studies for the Hetch Hetchy source and evaluates local water resources every five years. Their most recent local sanitary assessment was completed in 2016. Additionally, SFPUC performed a specialized watershed study for the Upcountry Non-Hetch Hetchy Resource (UNHHS) in 2015 as part of drought response initiatives.
These comprehensive assessments evaluate sanitary conditions, water quality parameters, potential contamination sources, and watershed management effectiveness. They're completed with assistance from partner organizations including the National Park Service and U.S. Forest Service. These studies have identified wildlife activity, livestock operations, and human activities as potential contamination sources.
Residents can review these assessments by contacting the San Francisco District office of the State Water Resources Control Board's (SWRCB) Division of Drinking Water (DDW) at (510) 620-3474. We invite community members to join our ongoing efforts to preserve water quality and protect this essential natural resource.
