Certain populations may face increased vulnerability to microbial contaminants in municipal water, including Cryptosporidium. Infants, elderly individuals, those with compromised immune systems, cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, individuals on steroid treatments, and people with HIV/AIDS may be particularly susceptible to infections. Please consult your healthcare provider about your municipal water consumption. Additional guidance on reducing Cryptosporidium infection risk is available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline at (800) 426-4791.

OUR MUNICIPAL WATER IS REGULATED. This report summarizes the quality of water we provide our customers, based on the most recent EPA-required tests. We hope this information helps you better understand what's in your municipal water.

WATER SOURCES: Municipal water (both tap and bottled) comes from rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water travels across land or underground, it dissolves naturally-occurring minerals, sometimes radioactive materials, and can pick up substances from animal presence or human activity.

Potential source water contaminants before treatment include:

  • Microbial contaminants (viruses/bacteria) from sewage treatment plants, septic systems, agriculture, and wildlife
  • Inorganic contaminants (salts/metals) occurring naturally or from urban runoff, wastewater discharges, oil/gas production, mining, or farming
  • Pesticides and herbicides from agriculture, urban stormwater runoff, and residential uses
  • Organic chemical contaminants, including synthetic and volatile organics from industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations, runoff, and septic systems
  • Radioactive contaminants that occur naturally or result from oil/gas production and mining

Source Information: CITY OF CIBOLO purchases water from CRWA Wells Ranch (groundwater from Carrizo and Wilcox Aquifers in Guadalupe and Gonzalez County) and CRWA Lake Dunlap WTP (surface water from Guadalupe River in Guadalupe County).

The TCEQ has completed a Source Water Assessment for all municipal systems that own their sources. The report describes susceptibility and potential contaminant sources based on human activities and natural conditions. For more information on assessments and protection efforts, contact CRWA at 210-609-0092.

ALL public municipal water may contain some contaminants. When water meets federal standards, there may not be health benefits to purchasing bottled water or filtration devices. Municipal water, including bottled varieties, can reasonably be expected to contain at least small amounts of some contaminants. Their presence doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. For more information about contaminants and potential health effects, call the EPA's Safe Drinking Water Hotline (1-800-426-4791).

City of Cibolo Municipal Water Report Info

Cibolo has played a significant role in south Texas development. Located in the western corner of Guadalupe County in south central Texas, Cibolo sits along Farm Market Road 78 and FM 1103, bordered by two major interstate highways: IH 10 to the south and IH 35 to the north. The city provides convenient access to both Seguin and San Antonio, lying approximately 13 miles east of the San Antonio metropolitan area.

Cibolo forms part of the Metrocom region, encompassing northeastern Bexar County and southwestern Guadalupe County. Sister cities include Universal City, Schertz, Selma, Live Oak, Gardenridge, Converse and Kirby. This area is also home to Randolph Air Force Base, a key pilot training facility for the U.S. Air Force.

Though Cibolo officially became an independent township on October 9, 1965, with M.O. Grooms as Mayor and Carl Biser, Ted Dykes, Alwin Lieck, Fred Niemietz and D.O. Trotti as Councilmen, the area's history stretches back much further. Comanche and other indigenous tribes inhabited the region before German settlers arrived. The city's name comes from the Comanche word "cibolo," meaning "buffalo," after the river flowing through the area.

Today's Cibolo differs dramatically from its early 1900s agricultural roots when cotton, corn, wheat, oats and milo maize thrived in the fertile Cibolo Valley. Now home to a diverse population, Cibolo has experienced significant housing growth for several years. The city offers a charming "country style" atmosphere while addressing future development challenges, truly making it a "City of Choice."

According to census data, Cibolo's population grew from 440 residents in 1970 to 1,757 in 1990, then 3,035 in 2000. Following a 2010 census challenge, the population was recorded at 19,580 with 6,575 households. Current estimates place Cibolo's population at approximately 25,403 and growing, making it an excellent place to live, work, and raise a family.
