San Antonio's municipal water comes from various sources including groundwater from the Edwards, Carrizo, Trinity and Wilcox aquifers, and surface water from Canyon Lake. Understanding these sources helps residents make informed decisions about their water quality.

POTENTIAL CONTAMINANTS IN SOURCE WATER

All water sources - whether from tap or bottle - can contain various contaminants:

  • Microbial contaminants: Viruses and bacteria from sewage systems, agricultural operations, and wildlife
  • Inorganic contaminants: Naturally-occurring salts and metals, or those resulting from urban runoff and industrial discharges
  • Pesticides and herbicides: From agricultural activities, urban runoff, and residential uses
  • Organic chemicals: By-products of industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations, and septic systems
  • Radioactive materials: Either naturally-occurring or from oil/gas production and mining

WATER QUALITY MONITORING

SAWS regularly tests water quality, sampling 360 distribution sites monthly for bacteria. In 2017, no E. coli was detected in the municipal supply. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality conducts Source Water Susceptibility Assessments to identify potential contamination risks.

SPECIAL HEALTH CONSIDERATIONS

Some residents may be more vulnerable to certain contaminants, including immunocompromised individuals undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, those on steroid treatments, and people with HIV/AIDS. These individuals should seek specific advice from healthcare providers about municipal water consumption.

LEAD IN DRINKING WATER

If present, elevated lead levels can cause serious health problems, particularly for pregnant women and young children. Lead typically comes from service lines and home plumbing materials. To minimize potential exposure, flush your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for drinking or cooking, especially after periods of non-use.

At S Water Corporation, we're dedicated to supplying quality municipal water to communities near LaVernia, Floresville, Stockdale, Adkins and Sutherland Springs, Texas. As a non-profit, member-owned organization, we focus on building reliable water infrastructure and fostering community development.

Our service extends to over 5,800 members across more than 170 square miles, primarily in Wilson County. With approximately 450 miles of water pipeline, we continuously upgrade our facilities to ensure consistent water delivery to all customers. We welcome about 20 new members monthly to our growing network.

The Corporation is governed by a nine-member Board of Directors elected by our membership for three-year terms. Elections occur at our annual meeting on the third Monday of April. Our operations follow regulations from both Federal and State agencies, alongside member-approved By-Laws.

Our dedicated team includes approximately 18 office and field staff, overseen by an Office Manager, Field Operations Foreman, and General Manager who handles daily administration, operations, supervision, and budgeting.

Our standard business hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with after-hours emergency service available.
