About Us
Certain populations may face heightened vulnerability to microbial contaminants in tap water, including Cryptosporidium. Infants, elderly individuals, and those with compromised immune systems - such as chemotherapy patients, organ transplant recipients, steroid treatment patients, and people with HIV/AIDS - may face increased infection risks. Consulting with your healthcare provider about your municipal water is recommended. Additional guidance on reducing Cryptosporidium infection risk is available through the Safe Municipal Water Hotline at (800) 426-4791.
This report summarizes the quality of water we provide to our customers, based on the most recent EPA-mandated testing. We hope this information helps you understand what's in your tap water.
Municipal water sources include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water travels across land surfaces or underground, it dissolves naturally-occurring minerals and sometimes radioactive material, and may collect substances from animal presence or human activity. Potential contaminants include:
- Microbial contaminants (viruses, bacteria) from sewage treatment facilities, septic systems, agricultural operations, and wildlife
- Inorganic contaminants (salts, metals) occurring naturally or resulting from urban runoff, industrial discharges, oil/gas production, mining, or farming
- Pesticides and herbicides from agriculture, urban runoff, and residential usage
- Organic chemical contaminants, including synthetic and volatile compounds from industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations, urban runoff, and septic systems
- Radioactive contaminants occurring naturally or resulting from oil/gas production and mining
Our municipal water comes from surface water collected from Joe Pool, Richland Chambers, and Cedar Creek Reservoirs. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has assessed our source water and determined that some sources may be vulnerable to certain contaminants. For detailed information on source water assessments and protection efforts, contact the Midlothian Water Treatment Plant at 972-775-6663 or visit Texas Municipal Water Watch at https://www.Tceq.Texas.Gov/gis/swaview.
Water Audit Report: Texas requires retail water suppliers serving over 3,300 connections to submit annual Water Loss Audits to the Texas Water Development Board. For January-December 2017, Midlothian produced 2,401,248,280 gallons of retail treated water with adjusted water loss of 66,714,862 gallons (approximately 8.19%). This represents a 4% reduction from the previous year. For questions about the water audit, please contact Tim Walker, Plant Manager at 972-775-6663.
All municipal water may contain some contaminants, though this doesn't necessarily indicate health risks when standards are met. There may not be health advantages to purchasing bottled water or point-of-use devices. For information about contaminants and potential health effects, call the EPA's Safe Municipal Water Hotline at (800) 426-4791.
Secondary constituents (calcium, sodium, iron) may affect taste, color, and odor but aren't health concerns. Our water meets secondary constituent standards.
Lead Information: Elevated lead levels can cause serious health problems, especially for pregnant women and young children. Lead typically comes from materials in service lines and home plumbing, not the water supply itself. To minimize lead exposure, flush your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for consumption when it has been sitting for several hours. For lead testing information, visit http://www.Epa.Gov/safewater/lead.
