The Municipal Water is Regulated and Monitored Regularly. This report provides essential information about your water supply and the efforts made by the water system to deliver safe municipal water.

Where does our water come from? The City of Forney utilizes Purchased Surface Water from North Texas Municipal Water District, which is stored in ground storage tanks before distribution through the city's network. NTMWD sources raw water primarily from Lavon Lake for treatment at the Wylie Water Treatment Plant.

Additionally, NTMWD maintains water rights in several other bodies of water including Lake Texoma, Rick Chapman Lake (Cooper Lake), Lake Tawakoni, and the East Fork Raw Water Supply Project (Wetland) to supplement supplies. Detailed information on water sources and treatment processes is available at www.ntmwd.com.

Source Water Assessment: The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has conducted a Source Water Susceptibility Assessment for your water source(s). This information describes the susceptibility and types of constituents that might affect your municipal water supply based on human activities and natural conditions. Access this source water assessment information on Texas Drinking Water Watch at http://dww.tceq.state.tx.us/DWW/.

Secondary Constituents: Many elements naturally found in water (like calcium, sodium, or iron) may cause taste, color, and odor issues. These secondary constituents are regulated by Texas, not the EPA, and don't pose health concerns. While not included in this report, information about secondary constituents is available on Texas Drinking Water Watch under "Chemicals" at http://dww.tceq.state.tx.us/DWW/.

Special Notice - Vulnerable Populations: Individuals with compromised immune systems, including cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, people with HIV/AIDS, certain elderly individuals, and infants may be particularly vulnerable to infections. These individuals should consult healthcare providers about drinking water precautions. EPA/CDC guidelines on reducing infection risk from Cryptosporidium and other microbial contaminants are available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline at (800) 426-4791.

Lead Awareness: Elevated lead levels can cause serious health problems, especially for pregnant women and young children. Lead in municipal water comes primarily from materials in service lines and home plumbing. You can minimize lead exposure by flushing your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for drinking or cooking. For concerns about lead, consider having your water tested. Information is available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline or at http://www.epa.gov/safewater/lead.

Water Source Information: The City of Forney uses Purchased Surface Water. All water sources (tap and bottled) include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water travels over land or underground, it dissolves natural minerals, sometimes radioactive materials, and can pick up substances from animal or human activity.

Potential contaminants include:

  • Microbial contaminants (viruses/bacteria) from sewage plants, septic systems, agricultural operations, and wildlife
  • Inorganic contaminants (salts/metals) from natural sources, urban runoff, industrial/domestic wastewater, oil/gas production, mining, or farming
  • Pesticides and herbicides from agriculture, urban runoff, and residential uses
  • Organic chemical contaminants from industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations, runoff, and septic systems
  • Radioactive contaminants from natural sources or oil/gas production activities

All water contains some contaminants. The presence of contaminants doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. For more information about contaminants and potential health effects, call the EPA's Safe Drinking Water Hotline (1-800-426-4791).

Lawn Watering Tips:

  1. Signs your lawn needs water: dull purplish color, folding leaf blades, visible footprints. Check in morning.
  2. Bermuda grass lawns typically need watering only every 5-7 days without quality loss.
  3. Early morning is ideal for watering - less evaporation and wind drift.
  4. Evening watering keeps lawns wet overnight, increasing disease vulnerability.
  5. For clay soils, apply one inch of water to reach 4-6 inches deep.
  6. Light, frequent watering produces weak, shallow root systems vulnerable to stress.

Sprinkler System Maintenance: Homes with automatic irrigation systems use approximately 50% more water outdoors than those without. Simple maintenance can prevent waste. Remember to inspect for problems, check connections for leaks, direct sprinklers properly, and choose appropriate controllers.
