North Dakota Water Utility Companies

The City of Dickinson is proud to present our Annual Water Quality Report, also known as the "Consumer Confidence Statement (CCR)". This report aims to inform our customers about the quality of their tap water and any potential health concerns related to identified contaminants. It also provides additional resources to help you make informed decisions about water consumption.

Our municipal water system met all Water Regulations in 2017. This report has been prepared according to recent amendments to the Safe Drinking Water Act and includes terminology definitions, specific language requirements, water quality data (in Table I on the back page), and other educational information.

For questions or more information, please contact City Hall, c/o: Mr. Adam Ballesteros, Water Utility Manager, 99 2nd Street East, Dickinson, North Dakota 58601 or call 1-701-456-7779. You may also attend City Commission meetings held at City Hall on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month beginning at 4:30 pm.

We request large volume water customers to post copies of this statement in visible areas or distribute to tenants, residents, students, and/or employees. This allows water consumers who don't receive water bills to access this information, which is also available at www.dickinsongov.com. Non-English speakers needing translation assistance may contact us at the number listed above.

Since April 1, 2000, the Southwest Water Authority (SWA) has managed, operated, and maintained the Dickinson Water Treatment Plant, resulting in two reporting entities for 2017: SWA and the City of Dickinson. The city purchases water from SWA, which obtains water from Lake Sakakawea, a surface water source. The North Dakota Department of Health completed an assessment determining our water system is moderately susceptible to potential contaminant sources, but noted "historically, SWA has effectively treated this source water to meet drinking water standards." For more details, contact SWA at 1-701-225-9149.

City of Dickinson Municipal Water Report Info

Dickinson, North Dakota serves as the gateway to Theodore Roosevelt National Park and houses Dickinson State University. It's a home rule city serving approximately 25,000-30,000 residents. Strategically positioned in southwestern North Dakota, Dickinson stands at the midpoint between Fargo, North Dakota and Billings, Montana. Residents enjoy being less than an hour's drive from Lake Sakakawea, the largest mainstream reservoir on the Missouri River, offering exceptional fishing and recreational opportunities.

Due to its important regional location and socioeconomic influence, Dickinson earned the nickname "Queen City of the Prairies" – a title used since at least 1906. Local legend suggests this name emerged from a contest sponsored by the Dickinson Press. The Dickinson Commercial Club (now the Dickinson Area Chamber of Commerce) actively promoted this nickname, particularly in the early 1900s while campaigning to establish a state university (now Dickinson State University).

As Dickinson also serves as the entryway to the American West, Medora, and Theodore Roosevelt National Park, it has additionally adopted its contemporary nickname: "The Western Edge."
