Colorado Water Utility Companies

We're proud to present this year's comprehensive water quality report. Our primary goal is to deliver safe, reliable water to your home every day. If you have questions about this report or want to learn more about protecting our local water resources, please contact our Public Works Department at 303-412-3539. We value our customers and want you to be fully informed about your water quality and the services we provide.

Approximately 97% of our water comes from treated surface water purchased from the City of Westminster, sourced from Standley Lake west of the city. The remaining 3% comes from our 800-foot deep well within Federal Heights, which draws from the Arapahoe aquifer. Due to our distribution system design, residents may receive water from either source or a mixture of both. All water sources undergo regular testing according to Federal and State regulations.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) sets strict standards limiting contaminants in public water systems, similar to FDA regulations for bottled water. All municipal water, including bottled varieties, naturally contains small amounts of some contaminants. Their presence doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk.

Certain populations may be more vulnerable to water contaminants, including people with compromised immune systems (cancer patients, organ transplant recipients, those with HIV/AIDS), some elderly individuals, and infants. These individuals should seek advice from healthcare providers about their water consumption.

Regarding lead in drinking water: Elevated lead levels can cause serious health problems, especially for pregnant women and young children. Your home's plumbing materials may affect lead levels. If concerned, consider having your water tested and running your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for drinking or cooking, especially after periods of non-use.

For information about radioactive contaminants, secondary standards, or unregulated contaminants in our water supply, please visit the EPA's resources or contact our Public Works Department. The Colorado Department of Public Health has provided a "Source Water Assessment Report" which you can access at www.Colorado.Gov/cdphe/ccr under "Guidance: Source Water Assessment Reports" (search for 101055; Federal Heights City of).

Potential contamination sources in our water supply area include commercial/industrial zones (dry cleaners, gas stations, repair shops), residential areas (parks, historic landfills), transportation corridors, agricultural areas, and septic systems. This assessment helps us improve water treatment capabilities and prepare for future challenges.
